This is the first Asterix album not featuring the work of Goscinny or Underzo and I therefore approached it with trepidation; would it be any good? In the case of this new Asterix both the writer and artist are new and yet they keep the quality and expectation fullfilled. If you’re a lez of the series you will probably be aware of the controversy surrounding the change in writers and artists but for the purposes of this review let’s set that aside. Asterix and the Picts is the first non-Uderzo Asterix book. When a Pict is washed up outside their village all the women fall in love with him and the men folk cannot wait to send him enook.

This time, Asterix and Obelix are off to Scotland to fight the Romans and collaborating Picts against the other clans. Whisky, porridge, Nessie, tartan, caber tossing and the origins of golf all feature as well. All in all a good entertaining Asterix, about one of the most interesting peoples on European soil. No real bad stuff.

Some of the ladies Impedimenta, Mrs. Some people haven’t been all that impressed with the puns used for the pictish characters but both French and English versions are devilishly clever.

I just really enjoyed seeing everybody’s favourite Gauls back in action. When it was released this comic was on my radar for some time, as an avid reader of the more European orientated comics of which Asterix has been one of my favorites from way back to my youth.
